Dating Olympian, naiuwi ang titulo sa Bolo Cup

NAKAMIT ng dating Olympian na si Jethro “The Jet” Dionisio ang kampeonato sa ika-12 Demetrio “Bolo” Tuason Cup na ginanap sa Arms Corporation of the Philippines shooting range sa Marikina noong Hulyo 12 hanggang 15.

Ang nasabing kompetisyon na itinakdang “Level 3” na laro ng International Practical Shooting Confederation at ng Philippine Practical Shooting Association ay nilahukan ng hindi bababa sa 500 na manlalaro. Mapapabilang ang mga nanalo sa Philippine Team na sasabak sa Australasia 2013 Championships sa New Zealand.

“Isa ang Bolo Cup sa mga pinakamahihirap na nasalihan ko, marami ang mga target na gumagalaw at ang aking mga kalaban ay kapuwa magagaling din,” ani Dionisio na nagtapos ng kursong Ekonomiko sa UST.

RP Frisbee team, ikapito sa World championships

NASUNGKIT ng pambansang koponan ng Pilipinas ang ikapitong puwesto sa Frisbee mixed division laban sa 15 bansang nagtagisan ng galing sa World Ultimate and Guts Championship ng World Flying Disc Federation na ginanap sa Sakai, Japan mula Hulyo 7 hanggang 14.

Pinataob ng Smart TV5 Pilipinas ang koponang mula sa France, 17-10.

“Sinamantala namin ang marami nilang pagkakamali sa pamamagitan ng pag-iskor sa aming goal,” ani Tin Garcia, ang pangulo at team captain ng España United, ang opisyal na Frisbee team ng UST.

UST returns to V-League

Feb. 14, 7:42 p.m. - THE UST Lady Spikers will return to action when the first instalment of Shakey’s V-League Season 9 opens on April 15 at The Arena in San Juan.

“It will be a good experience and will provide media exposure for the players,” said head coach Odjie Mamon.

The team will seek reinforcement from former Lady Spiker and national team player Mary Jane Balse.

La Salle too much for Lady Spikers

Jan. 29, 7:26 p.m. - THE Lady Spikers were swept by defending champions De La Salle University in three sets, 20-25, 22-25, 13-25, at The Arena in San Juan this afternoon.

La Salle’s solid blocking limited UST’s frontline led by Maruja Banaticla, who only had eight points. Judy Caballejo and Maika Ortiz were limited to nine and five points, respectively.

Lady Spikers nail UP for 2nd straight win

Dec. 11, 7:48 p.m. - THE UST Lady Spikers shook off a listless start and defeated a hapless University of the Phillippines (UP) squad 22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-18, at the Arena in San Juan today.

Maika Ortiz tossed in 16 points, while Maruja Banaticla and rookie Carmela Tunay chipped in 14 and 11 points, respectively.

"Pangit ang warm-up ng mga players. ‘Di nila sineseryoso ‘yung laban kaya kinailangan ko pang magalit para magising sila," coach Odjie Mamon said. "Pero sa ngayon, kailangan ko pa ng tunay na leader na magse-step-up—‘yung handang mag-organize sa loob ng court."

Lady Spikers score first win in UAAP

Dec. 9, 2:58 p.m. - AFTER their back-to-back losses, the UST Lady Spikers finally notched their first win of the season after trouncing the Far Easter University Lady Tamaraws, 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-16, 15-13, at The Arena in San Juan last Dec. 7.

Lady Spikers drop opening game vs Ateneo

Nov. 26, 11:41 p.m. - A STRING of errors spoiled the Lady Spikers' opening game in the UAAP as they fell to the Ateneo Lady Eagles, 16-25, 23-25, 18-25, at the Arena in San Juan this afternoon.

Maruja Banaticla scored 12 points for the Lady Spikers, while former UST high school standout Alyssa Valdez led Ateneo with 13 markers.

"Hindi nasunod ang game play namin. Maraming let down at marami talagang errors," new headcoach Odjie Mamon said.

Salinggawi places out of UAAP Cheerdance Top 3

September 17, 9:49 p.m. - A WELL-EXECUTED routine does not guarantee a spot in the cheerdance Top 3.

The Salinggawi Dance Troupe again dropped out of the Top 3 in the 2011 Samsung UAAP Cheerdance Competition at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum this afternoon.

Donning a gold Dominican cross on their black-yellow-white costume, Salinggawi slid to fourth place behind skillful Far Eastern University (FEU) Cheering Squad.

The University of the Philippines (UP) Pep Squad easily defended the cheerdance crown with their Madonna-inspired routine that left the audience in awe, while the De La Salle University Animo Squad unexpectedly won second place.

Lady Spikers not joining V-League

June 14, 10:28 p.m. - The Lady Spikers will skip the second installment of V-League’s eighth season to concentrate on their studies and focus on training for the upcoming UAAP tournament, said new head coach Odjie Mamon.

Mamon said the players were still adjusting to his new system, since he was just assigned as the team’s chief tactician last April. He replaced coach Shaq Delos Santos, who left UST to coach the men's national team.

“This is not the period that our team can compete in any tournament,” he said in Filipino.

Lady Spikers spoil Adamson, book Finals ticket

February 16, 11:50 p.m.-THE UST Lady Spikers trounced a pesky Adamson University in a four-setter match, 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 25-21, at The Arena in San Juan today, securing a ticket to the Finals to defend their crown.

With 11 deadlocks in the first canto, both teams were eager to start strong but series of errors plagued Adamson while UST relied on the heroics of Aiza Maizo and Maruja Banaticla.
